Gamay is a natural cross of Pinot Noir and Gouais Blanc which probably originated in Burgundy (FR) where it was first registered in 1395. In Switzerland, an ancient biotype of it known as Plant Robert is located in Lavaux. Gamay is characterized by light wines with notes of red cherry, strawberry and peony for the most refined.
