Long wrongly considered to be an artificial Riesling × Sylvaner cross obtained by the Swiss H. Müller in 1882 in Germany, the DNA test denied this relationship by showing in 2000 that it was in fact a Riesling × Madeleine Royale. Despite everything, the name Riesling × Sylvaner (or Riesling-Sylvaner) has been wrongly kept in Switzerland.

A multi-resistant variety (PIWI) created by the Weinbauinstitut Friborg in Germany, Souvignier Gris is a cross between Seyval blanc and Zaehringer. It gives full-bodied, aromatic and powerful wines, with structure and good acidity accompanied by intense aromas of very pleasant fruit on the palate.
